Track record yesterday not good: in foul mood, unproductive, exhausted; quick nap turned into 2.5 hrs sleep -- right thru an appointment.

Yesterday was a hard day. Today will be better.

Submitted abstract for DH2009. The waiting commences.

Thunder! The cats are Freaking Out.

Ready to vote NOW. The waiting is making me crazy.

Today's productivity projections: sinking fast.

#votereport #91711 Waited about 20 mins at Claremont Manor - longest wait I've had there by a factor of 4

Yes, yes, yes, no way, yes, no, no, fuck no, no, no, um, hrm, and yes.

Today's events: Voting - 20 min wait; 2 min action. Doctor - 45 min wait; 3 min action. Guess which I'd do again, in a heartbeat.

NBC says McCain has called Obama to concede.

Teaching Gilroy and Gates this morning. We certainly ought to have a lot to talk about.

@xina: total serendipity. Even better: student who brought in the "sentence of the day" took it from Obama, & led into a conv abt signifyin.

r/t @tigerbeat: writ petition filed asking CA Supreme Court to strike down Prop 8: http://aclu.org/lgbt/relationships/37706prs20081105.html

@chutry: Whoa -- that's amazing! Many congratulations!

Diet coke. Right in this vein right here, please.

@briancroxall: thanks!

Freezing. The temperature is dropping outside, apparently, but the hotel seems not to have figured it out.

About to listen to Fred's keynote, in the same room mine will be in tomorrow. It's BIG. I am working on not freaking out.

T-minus three hours. At this point, the talk is what the talk is. All that remains is keeping myself distracted and calm as long as I can.

@2xlp: I think you're onto something here. Spectacle! I suspect, however, that I'll have to settle for overcaffeination.

@chutry: Thanks. I've definitely been enjoying it to this point; here's hoping the rest of it goes well...

@2xlp: Eek! I usually do fairly well when overcaffeinated, except that my usual tendency to speak too quickly gets amplified...

@bighandsome: you have a habit of heading to Claremont when I'm out of town. Something I should know?

Ten minutes, people. Places!

Talk went fabulously, if I'm to believe the reports. Went to two panels afterward. Now trying to unwind with a glass of bad champagne.

$$PS: I choose to believe the reports\.$$

Just got paid \$300 to get in an hour later. Thanks, Continental!

No good deed goes unpunished: my flight was overbooked, so I took the rebook offer; rebooked flight was stupidly delayed. Thanks, Delta.

@mkirschenbaum: we've had carpenters in our place doing the same all week. It's been fantastically exciting watching them take shape!

Guys here finishing the bookshelves: trim and shoe moldings, and then the stain begins.

@mkirschenbaum: no, they're doing it for us. It's the sort of problem I'd rather throw money at than try to deal with myself.

@halavais: yay! Congratulations to all, and good wishes for continued good things.

Halfway to Hawaii $$aka LAX$$. Rest of the way to maitais tomorrow.

Progress on new chapter: have a clear sense of what needs to be done but haven't quite figured out how to do it. Research in a nutshell.
