Thank you!

Super excited about the fact that I’m flying out of NYC tomorrow just before the next storm… and right into the storm in KCMO.

Maybe the storm will accelerate while I’m in the air, and we can just leapfrog it.

In a commuter jet. Did I mention that part. #SUPERexcited

In theory, the precipitation won’t start in NYC until after I take off. And in theory, KCMO will be down to “snow showers” when I land.

But if there’s the slightest delay…?

Exactly! I’m getting a head start on the to-do list.

Glad you made it in beforehand! I’ll hope to see you there tomorrow.

Hoping for luck for both of us!

At least it doesn’t look like the 8+ inches they were threatening!

Got robocalled by @united this morning telling me everything is on time. Fingers crossed! #SPARC2014

I’ll take it. I’m just missing the front edge of this storm and flying into the back edge of it. Nice to know to go to the airport.

Truly!

Oh no! I’ll hope your luck clears quickly.

Thanks!

Well, that was timed about as well as it could be. Left before it started in NY, and arrived in a lull in KC. Now to survive the cab ride.

Here we have the added obstacle of half-plowed streets. Not something often seen in SD!

What a contrast in rides! It’s -8 here, with the wind chill.

Call me crazy, but I seem to recall it not being 2 degrees during #sparc2012.

Here is the view from my hotel room window. That empty white strip is a river.

Thank you! It’s cold as heck but the storm wasn’t as bad as they predicted. I hope the same is true on your end of it.

You will totally be able to land. It’s frigid & there’s snow on the ground but it’s not as bad as they threatened.

Yes, I’m at the hotel. Looking forward to seeing you!

It looks that way, doesn’t it?

Ooh, I bet. Stay dry!

It was excellent, and worth the trek!

At least! Wind chill of like 25 below. #uphillbothways

I have Oscars issues, alas.

This is stuck in mine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mypHZmXdU3o

I haven’t really been able to watch since a screenwriter friend of mine compared the broadcast to Triumph of the Will.

This is true. But mine has steadfast insistence, especially in a car on the way to the airport.

Yes, but also, KCI is subdivided into small security/gate clusters, making it feel even smaller than it is.

Ugh, so sorry that didn't work.

You know, a little lock overlay on the wifi icon in the OS X menu bar when connected to a secure network would be a useful reminder.

Gearing up for my 4pm talk at Washington University on The Digital Futures of Scholarship.

A lovely visit to Washington University. Now on to my old stomping grounds: @pomonacollege!

$$Incidentally, why “stomping grounds”?$$

Come on, United, give us a gate. I’ve got a connection to make!

Thanks! Made the connection, happily. CA promises to be lovely. I hope all is well I’m NY!

Wait, what? High tomorrow 63, low tomorrow night 23? And then high 27 Thursday, with sideways golf clubs?

You’re a tease, Spring.

Oh thank goodness. The high in NYC tomorrow will only be 54. I feel so much better.

EXACTLY.

Check the Weather has a better forecast $$though check that snow on Thursday\!$$ and better-looking sideways golf clubs.

I’m still getting golf clubs. Or possibly a visual representation of whistling in the wind.

Even I've moved from one-word slides to evocative-image slides.

I have had an errand on my to do list since October. I put it off because I thought it was a multi-stop bit of bureaucracy.

Huh. There was some book I read. Mechanics? Mechanistics? Something like that.

Starting the trek to Seattle and #SCMS14. Looking forward to seeing everyone, and to the launch of [in]Transition at @mediacommons!

Ugh - good luck!

You know you can set a custom view in Google Calendar to be whatever you want. I have a 2-week view I love.

Under settings, scroll to custom view and set to 4 weeks. Ta-da!

A couple of weeks ago, a bunch of my FB friends were all OMG, the horror, what did they do to the fonts? I shrugged it off, because my FB +

was just the same, and because I’ve never really gotten that exercised about any of the other FB changes that folks have freaked out about.

Yesterday I loaded up FB, and OMG THE HORROR, what did they do to the fonts? If you haven’t gotten it yet, count your blessings.

In conjunction with the workshop I’m now in at #scms14, my post on evolving tenure review practices. http://www.plannedobsolescence.net/blog/evolving-standards-and-practices-in-tenure-and-promotion-reviews/ #makeitcount

Many institutions do. I was asked to think specifically about scholarship in that talk, and on this panel.

Super-smart exploration of the complex intersections of “DH” and “media studies” by @jasonrhody: possibility space, not definition. #scms14

Very much looking forward to seeing you again!

There’s that nod, but there’s also the nod of “I agree” or “I totally dig that.”

So wait. You’re telling me I came back from Seattle for SNOW??? Unacceptable, winter. Unacceptable.

I’m glad there are fond thoughts there! Congrats on the big release though - I hope it’s all fab.

Very happy to find this in my inbox this morning!

At my last gig, I communicated regularly with another Kathleen. She referred to us as K1 and K2 which avoided the weirdness.

She always very generously made me K1. $$I’d been there longer, so I guess had seniority\.$$

Oh, yikes. I can only imagine.

Seriously awful. My workaround has been to get rid of the next slide display, which embiggens the notes window.

Hang on. Christie announces the resignation of the chair of the Port Authority? I’m sure I’ll process this in a sec. http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/29/nyregion/christie-press-conference-on-bridge-scandal.html?_r=0

In Philly it’s especially civilized; you not only line up but file down and wait on the platform for the train.

Better audio, but also better lines, bc not mixed in with folks in seats often resulting in a line/stampede merger.

You need to get in at least one censorious “Sir, you are in the Quiet Car.”

I have used jello, cottage cheese, and mashed potatoes in this context. Not sure whether there’s rhyme or reason to the choice.

Sure, during the first half of the week. Email me some times that will work for you.

I have a chicken roasting in my oven, a nice bottle of white open, and a good book on my lap. Pretty much perfect for a rainy Sunday.

I’ve used it several times in decision-making processes lately!

That probably would have had a much less positive outcome, yes.
