Yes, this! Thanks, @BerondaM, for putting it so succinctly. https://twitter.com/BerondaM/status/1002618145029476353

The return home, post-vacation, presented its usual challenges, not least the fragmentation and scattering of my attention in a dozen directions. I am working on recentering, even as I once again pick up all those neglected obligations.

Attention, in fact, is part of what I’m working on in revising Generous Thinking right now, and I’ve run into a puzzle in the process: http://kfitz.info/generosity-and-attention/

I made the mistake of going outside for about 90 seconds to deadhead a peony and pull a couple of weeds, and got utterly swarmed by mosquitos. Who completely ignored my partner.

Thanks! The book is the French original of Gravity and Grace; I’ll have to see if it’s in there though not in the translation. I’ve also seen the letter mentioned elsewhere but not fully cited…

The letter seems to be collected in The Simone Weil Reader, of which a copy is in my very own library…

They are the WORST.

That would be useful indeed!

One way I know I feel: Github has never been a preservation solution, and it’s been alarming to see it used as if it were. So maybe this will encourage projects to find actual solutions? https://twitter.com/captain_primate/status/1003372017276588033

RT @mchris4duke: opening slide in every scholcomm presentation for the rest of eternity.

Definitely.

We do not! And it would be excellent. Let’s talk once you’re here. @humcommons https://twitter.com/sharonmleon/status/1003449822240702466

Amen.

I will SO look forward to that conversation!

Hooray!!!

Oy.

I can imagine, but it all feels a bit like a dream now.

The hunt continues. An update: http://kfitz.info/generosity-and-attention/#comment-542367

Awesome. I came up with that snippet as well, but had no start and end pages to request a scan via ILL, and was resisting ILLing the whole volume for some reason. I have, however, requested the Cahiers du Sud version!

Yesterday’s search turned out to be successful. More successful, in fact, than I’d thought it would be, for which I’m enormously grateful: http://kfitz.info/la-plus-rare-et-la-plus-pure/

Ooh, thanks for sending this my way! It looks like a HIGHLY useful example, indeed.

On the community-led academy: I keep thinking about the folk schools of the civil rights era like Highlander, and especially Myles Horton’s descriptions of getting out of the way of what the community needed.

Did I ever tell you about the time I started to fold a load of towels but had to run out for a minute and forgot about them until the next day, and when I opened the dryer there was one perfectly folded towel sitting on top of the load? For a split second, I thought it was magic.

So looking forward to this. Come say hello in Toronto! #ELPUB2018 https://twitter.com/ELPUB_Conf/status/1004390214746427393

Yes! How may I help?

Welcome! It must be odd not to be met by massive demonstrations in the street.

*sigh*

Welcome! Someday you must visit me in Michigan, where it is at least 99,999,928 degrees cooler.

I’m using the Aside content type and the category micro on WP. I gave http://micro.blog the feed http://kfitz.info/type/aside/feed. Then in the app I set content type to Aside and category to micro, and connected my Twitter. +

When I post an Aside on WP, it cross posts to http://micro.blog and from there to Twitter. When I post on micro, it cross posts to Twitter and to WP as an Aside. $$The category bit is about creating a rule that prevents cross posts from being emailed to subscribers, too\.$$

I miss you guys, too. We’ll find a way! I hope the Southwest is great in the meantime, though, and that you don’t melt.

P.S.: I know Houston isn’t the southwest, but it ought to be.

Let me know!

Oh dear. I thought I had it all sorted and then my most recent micro totally failed to cross-post. I suspect my attempt at being cute confused it.

It’s the kind of problem that I really enjoyed tinkering with when I was on vacation. Weird how quickly that shifted afterward!

I know that rabbit hole sooooo well.

I am so sorry, Nancy; sending hugs and all good thoughts for you and your family.

Thank you for this, Neil!

I’ve been drafting the conclusion this week, and recognizing that “okay, how?” is a question that’s going to require more minds than mine to answer.

I have been quiet. Trying to imagine what I could say that could possibly make any sense whatsoever of the horrors around us. Trying not to start crying for fear that I won’t be able to stop. It’s all just too much.

I talked to my mother on the morning of November 9, 2016. She was baffled about why I was so upset. “Elections come and go,” she said. “There’ll be another one in four years.”

“I hope so,” I said. “But I am afraid of how much damage he can do in the meantime.”

This vile, racist administration is targeting and destroying the lives of thousands upon thousands of people.

And it is actively working to undermine every Constitutionally-provided possibility for making it stop.

None of this comes as a surprise. And yet each day’s new horrors have taken my breath away.

Amen.

I am right there with you. Devastated. And utterly, utterly ashamed.

This. This this this. Whatever he might sign, DO NOT FORGET where and how this began. https://twitter.com/JamilSmith/status/1009470691073130498

On my way to Toronto for #ELPUB2018, and then to Mexico City for #dh2018. I’m excited about both conferences but ashamed of my country. I’ll be flying home from MEX on the 30th, and am sad about missing #KeepFamiliesTogether while I’ll be so easily crossing that border.

I went to bed at 8 last night, as I had to get up at 3 for a flight. When I woke up, my watch said 9:30, and I flipped out! Why hadn’t my alarm gone off? I’ve missed my flight! I was all the way up and making the bed before I realized: p.m. In my defense, it was still light out.

Wow, that’s VERY weird, because that’s what I’m running and it’s loading.

I wonder… @briancroxall had an issue with the site getting caught in a blocker. Could the network you’re on be blocking things? $$I think Brian’s may have thought the French on my front page was suspicious\.$$

Yes, there is! I’ll have to figure out how, though. I’m running Jetpack, so maybe through a http://wordpress.com account?

Hmph. Might be a plugin. Very strange!
