University reward structures must align with our deepest values in order for us to build an institution capable of living out those values. #GenerousThinking https://amzn.to/2tSEcMl https://twitter.com/mbeisen/status/1101260213611581441

I hope folks will take this to heart. The trick, though, as @That_Kreigh pointed out, is moving beyond agreement and into action. My colleagues at @humcommons are working on some means of supporting that action! https://twitter.com/kfitz/status/1101182703838416896

Totally — we need private spaces that we can trust to be private. FB is not that space. Platforms we control, with accountability for privacy, would be an improvement on this. https://twitter.com/profwernimont/status/1101481646023475205

I don’t completely disagree — I’m all for the decentralized indieweb — but there is a key role for community discussion spaces, and especially spaces that the community can control.

Thanks! We launched in Dec. 2016 and since have grown to 16,700 registered users, with more exciting developments to come!

The five women I dedicated #GenerousThinking to were the women of the 1998 Pomona College English department. They created the atmosphere that allowed me to become who I am today. I owe them so much — and only regret that I didn’t tell them sooner. https://jhupbooks.press.jhu.edu/title/generous-thinking

Rumor has it that a version of my conversation with @Carlsonics is in this week’s print @chronicle. WITH PICTURES. I have no visual confirmation as yet. #GenerousThinking

Also, I’ve been offline most of the day today but I’m getting the impression that we’ve discovered that rich people use their resources to get things they don’t deserve?

That, my friends, is the actual definition of the American Dream: having the things you don’t deserve that allow you to get more things you don’t deserve.

I am heartbroken by the news out of NZ today, heartbroken for Muslim communities everywhere, heartbroken to see a kind of violence and hatred we know all too well in the US metastasize and spread.

Visual confirmation! $$And the picture — in the @msulibraries 360 visualization room — does not make me cringe\!$$ https://twitter.com/Carlsonics/status/1106378366838558720

I have been making a lot of gumbo, for a lot of years, and the last shades of the roux still feel like a game of chicken.

Something weird is happening to this tree.

Something weird is happening to this tree.

The #resilienttree never fully lost its leaves in the fall. I worry about what that bodes.

I would be there in a hot second. Good grief, give me my GReader community back!

I have discovered as I have gotten older $$and older$$ that my brain often decides that my workday should end no later than 5:00 pm, and that anything that happens after that point doesn’t really require its full participation.

Unfortunately, I’m teaching from 4:00 to 7:00 pm this semester. And at some point late in yesterday’s class I promised my students that I’d post links to *something* on our class blog today.

I remember that very clearly But I have *zero* memory of what.

The three-hour format is not my long suit to begin with, but the early evening makes it so much harder. 😩

Heh. I actually fessed up on the blog, in case they really need the thing I was going to post before next week’s class.

This is a super smart idea. I am going to write it down right now so that I don’t forget it.

Is my webcam on???

For better or for worse, there are no windows in our classroom. The Monday after DST kicked in, all of us were a little freaked out that the sun was still up when we were done!

Or Humanities Commons? One of my goals for that project all along has been getting societies to recognize that their real value $$and thus the reason to join the club$$ is in facilitating dialogue, participation, community. @humcommons

We’re now working on a pilot of institutional involvement and participation in the network. So there’s definitely room for libs to help shape things.
