Back during the polar vortex, I was supposed to give a talk at @purduefw, but windchills were below -30, and they wisely closed, and I was SO HAPPY not to have to make the drive, which had me a teeny bit anxious. +

So we rescheduled. For tomorrow! I’ll be there talking about generosity and working in public at 4pm. Would love to see you there.

Yay, congrats!

It’s super exciting! I will look forward to raising a glass to this news with you in just a few weeks! 🥂

Me too! I did want to let y’all know, though, that it’s very sweet of you to try to make me feel better about our utterly crap political situation by miring yourselves in a Parliamentary Groundhog Day, but it’s really not necessary. I’ll feel at home regardless!

The mastodon and the platypus are BFFs. Thanks, @purduefw, for a great visit yesterday!

This is somehow unsurprising.

Did I seriously spend a full two seconds wondering what kind of vegetable soup comes in a box and what it was doing in my hotel bathroom? $$Yes, yes I did\.$$

On my way to St. Louis for #cni19s, where I’ll be talking about #GenerousThinking, sustainability, and solidarity. Looking forward to the conversations there!

Backatcha!

Excellent! See you soon.

Yikes, that’s a lot. I will look forward to waving hello as you speed by. 😕

A generous offer from @JHUPress! https://twitter.com/JHUPress/status/1115263007196688384

THAT is a brilliant team! Congratulations, all, and well done, @UDLibrary!

30 minutes ‘til showtime. I am fired up and ready to go. https://twitter.com/JHUPress/status/1115263007196688384

Honestly, @lesliekwchan, I owe it all to you — you set me off down this path with that talk about AnthroSource $$sigh$$ so many years ago…

Huge thanks to @cni_org for inviting me to speak at such an amazing meeting. There’s something in the air: I heard tons about community, collaboration, and refusing privatization over the last two days. I’m grateful to have gotten to be part of those conversations. #cni19s

LALALALA I CAN’T HEAR YOU

I’d be delighted!

They’re the best. It’s like Cagney and Lacey if the network hadn’t been run by sexist assholes.

turned me onto them, by sending me to Happy Valley first, after which there was a Sally Wainwright binge. At the right moment — when you can deal with familial drama — you should try Last Tango in Halifax too.

Yes, yes, yes. This is the thing I was after in the opening to GENEROUS THINKING. https://twitter.com/kwazana/status/1115676193842315264

Okay somebody dumped a bunch of white stuff all over my yard overnight and I am not happy about it.

Utterly unacceptable.

In other news, I’ve got a piece out this morning in @timeshighered, arguing that rankings-based competition among institutions of higher education is doing us far more damage than good. https://www.timeshighereducation.com/features/universities-should-be-working-greater-good

It is, so far as I know!

This is painfully true across the academy. Those whose bad behavior has for too long been indulged have succeeded at enormous cost to too many others. And it’s a description as applicable to institutions as to individuals.

It is the END of APRIL. And I have to fly through ORD tomorrow night. I AM NOT OKAY WITH THIS. https://twitter.com/wttw/status/1121877785407119360

Just unacceptable.

Ugh, indeed. And the Japanese magnolia outside my office building is *just* about to break into full bloom!

😭

I have thought for years about a story of @jmittell’s about his daughter, born around the same time the family got a TiVo, looking at him with utter disbelief when at a relative’s house he tried to explain that her favorite show wasn’t “on.”

Is it just me or has Busby already doubled in size?

Okay! LAN-ORD-LHR, take two. Maybe today I will actually make it out of the house!

Safe travels to you, too!
