This day.

Seriously!

You are not kidding.

I’ll be right there.

I’m so sorry, KT. It’s just awful.

I would be curious to know what percentage of you have been running around with Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams” on repeat in your heads for the last several days?

I mean, I’m not complaining, it drove out a FAR worse 70s-era pop ballad that I was having a really hard time getting rid of.

It is an easier proposition to address precisely because it doesn’t require rethinking the basic economic structures of academic publishing. Just flip the payment from the consumer side to the producer side, and the middleman continues as usual!

Never mind that it exacerbates $$at times, I believe, intentionally$$ the inequities in who gets to speak, while opening up whole new audiences for those who can afford them.

Yep. As well as independent scholars, scholars in non-university jobs, scholars in the global south…

Call it a hunch.

So here’s where I think we are: either they’re indiscriminately throwing heavy-duty drugs at a mild case in hope of expediting recovery, or they’re lying about the gravity of his condition.

Malpractice or lying. Or both! More or less where we’ve been for the last 3.75 years.

Mayor Pete wasn’t my candidate, but boy is he good at this. Completely agreed.

I am so happy to hear this. I had a ginormous Russian Blue who was consistently fat-shamed by the vet right up until he suddenly developed hyperthyroidism and became a bag of bones. Big cats are big.

$$He lived to be 18 and the worst things he suffered from — hyperthyroidism aside — were orneriness and tooth decay\.$$

He was pretty awesome.

Thank you so much for this! I really appreciate it, especially this morning.

Yeah, there’s a big difference between “voting for candidate X produced tangible evidence of a better world” and “voting against candidate Y helped forestall the apocalypse.”
