Only if you consider health care to be a social good but education to be a private responsibility. That either produces crushing debt is a sign that we live in a profoundly immoral society that privileges profit above all else. https://twitter.com/BillKristol/status/1519714786954555392

Congratulations!!! So well-deserved, unlike the rest of this bullshit.

"We have a very expensive workforce and bosses who aren't sure what's getting done. Watch how quick every exec team on the planet starts talking about accountability." Johnathan and Melissa of Raw Signal Group, https://us14.campaign-archive.com/?u=c5c0614e6c57b2af2259dc51a&id=23d6b45c7b

Oh my goodness, what a story. I’m so glad you received the care you did. Most importantly, though, HUGE congratulations to you and Tacuma, and I can’t wait to meet this little one!

That part is bullshit too. But I’m glad you finally have the promotion you deserve!

All we need is for someone to reinvent Google Reader as an open-source project. Connect it to @humcommons and I would be ALL IN.

Ah, interesting. I didn’t know that about feeds. I also didn’t know that about Zotero! Now to add communities, and discussions, and persuade blogging platforms that RSS is a thing again.

There is a significant move in some places not to accept job ads without salary ranges. It will probably not surprise you that in academia it is being driven by libraryland.

Yay! But boo for the preceding illness, about which I did not know. I’m glad he’s on the mend!

Oh dang. I wonder if some nearby has a device that your tv is interpreting as its remote. Does your tv have a means of setting the channel that the remote communicates with it on? $$I hope that sentence makes sense\.$$

Oof. That’s annoying.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

You have done SUCH amazing work there, Shannon — I can’t wait to hear what’s next!

Kim!!! This is amazing news! I’m super excited for you — and even more excited for Brown! Congratulations!

Congratulations, Jo!!!

Huge congratulations, Joe! I’m excited for you and what you have head, even as I recognize the massive loss for us. We’ve built such a fantastic collaboration over the last few years; I’ll look forward to hearing how things develop for you! https://twitter.com/jsalem75/status/1524411232417112065

This sounds like the guy who ran the shoe repair shop I frequented in Claremont. We called it Grumpy Everett's Shoe Shop. But boy, he could repair the heck out of a pair of shoes. I hope he's still there, but I fear not.

Shannon!!! This is amazing! Good on Penn, and congratulations you!

I am so happy to see the release of the FOREST Framework from #NextGenLibPub and @Educopia! https://www.nglp2022.org/forest-framework +

Our work to document the development, governance, and financial position of Humanities Commons @humcommons has everything to do with these principles: +

Financial and organizational sustainability; Openness and interoperability; Representative governance; Equity, accessibility, and anti-oppression; Sharing of knowledge; Transparency. +

We look forward to digging further into the framework and ensuring that the Commons’ ongoing development fully expresses its values and principles.

Failed to link to the place we’re doing our own FOREST work: https://sustaining.hcommons.org. Not at all accidental $$if coincidental$$ that we both chose ecological metaphors.🌲

Uh oh

I wish you did make the rules

A smaller uh oh

Ack!

Indeed — phew.

I totally get that. Though an experience with hypothermia years ago taught me to think of the brain as an unreliable narrator, so I’m a little less betrayed and a little more eye-rolly when it does something like this.

Totally. I was convinced that everything was just fine, thanks. It took someone else talking to me to figure out that my systems weren’t functioning properly. I still have no idea what I sounded like. The brain is utterly incapable of observing itself.

Things could be a lot worse than that, indeed.

WHAT.

"Working through COVID" isn't just personally risky, but spreads the "productivity culture brainworms" that infect us all. Huge thanks to @annehelen for the reminder that working while sick undermines everyone's ability to exercise proper self-care. https://annehelen.substack.com/p/the-normalization-of-working-through

Super good question. When I was in preschool, I was ambidextrous but was disciplined into only using my right hand. https://twitter.com/MDaware/status/1528021829809491969

OMG me too. I moved to LA at 22 and thought it was bizarre. And its bizarreness has grown over time — the only place I’ve ever lived where I had to provide my own.

Seriously! I’m 90% sure that when I left that apartment I left the fridge behind. I now fear that my landlord may have sold it to the next tenant.

Congratulations!!! So well deserved!

This country is so broken. Not that it was ever otherwise. But all semblance of becoming capable of growing toward its supposed ideals is long gone.

Indeed. I can’t go on; I’ll go on.
