Today, I Am Not Amused

My satellite TV provider has dropped a slew of channels from its offerings overnight, due to a contract dispute with Viacom.

The channels? No biggie: BET, Comedy Central, MTV, MTV2, MTV Espanol, Nickelodeon, Nick Games & Sports, Noggin, VH1, VH1 Classic and CBS.

The good news, of course, is that my provider is, as always, looking out for my best interests. And in compensation for this loss of service, they’ll be refunding me a shiny new dollar each month!

Time, I think, to do a little service-shopping.

  1. I’d miss Comedy Central because of The Daily Show, and I’m not sure but I think there is an occassional show that I watch on CBS, but Noggin! That’s just cruel. I don’t know about others, but I can’t live without Noggin – or should I say, my kids can’t live without it, and therefore I can’t. That’s hitting me where I live!

  2. I’m not exactly amused by it, either. Last summer, Dish had a scuffle with the owner of my local ABC station, which resulted in that channel being dark for several days. I sided with Dish at the time, but seeing this new incident, I’m starting to wonder about them.

  3. Nickleodeon has some of the best shows on television, which is sort of a sad comment on 60 years of the flickering tube. Some of the barf jokes would make an adult want to, well, barf, but ABC ran two nights of the scumbag Billy Graham last week, and if you’ve read any of the Graham-Nixon transcripts, that should really make you want to barf. Sic transit gloria.
