Commenting Trouble?

In my stats of late, I’ve noticed a rash (read: 2) of folks whose path through the site appears to indicate that they’re trying unsuccessfully to comment. It may be that they don’t want to leave email addresses (which my commenting system requires) or that the CAPTCHAs system is somehow eluding them. But there might also be some kind of error that I oughta know about. I recognize the irony of asking folks who can’t comment for comments, though, so if you’re trying to comment and failing, would you email me? (See “contact” above.)

  1. The captcha system is a bit off — sometimes the captcha image doesn’t show on initial load.

Almost always, if you leave a field blank and have to resubmit a comment, the captcha doesn’t show — but often changes. That leaves the visitor unable to submit a comment unless they leave the site and come back again.

  2. Okay, I think I may have worked this out — I think it was a caching error. I’ve disabled caching for the comments template, so I’m hoping that’ll take care of it, but let me know if you continue to have trouble.

In other news, I’ve finally figured out how to get EE to link to commenter URLs, if they exist, but NOT link to commenter email addresses in the absence of URLs. This is a major step forward.
